Temporary/Seasonal Maintenance Worker

The City of Umatilla is currently accepting applications for the position of Temporary/Seasonal Maintenance Worker. This position will primarily be assigned to City Park maintenance but may be required to assist in other departments as determined by the Public Works Supervisor. This Seasonal Maintenance Worker position will work 40 hours a week, Monday - Friday for a period of up to 6 months. Salary is $10.00 - $12.30/hour DOE.

Job description: Essential Functions: Position performs a variety of manual labor activities in the Parks, Cemetery, and other City facilities and locations. Duties include, but are not limited to, mowing, weed spraying and control, watering and maintaining turf and plants, public restroom cleaning, ball field preparation and maintenance, painting, minor pluming repairs, and other maintenance activities as assigned. Operate equipment safely and effectively, ability to lift up to 50 lbs., be self-motivated with the ability to listen and follow specific directions. This position will work in highly visible areas involving frequent interaction with the general public, requiring positive, and proactive communication and customer service skills.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 1 year work experience in horticulture, landscaping or building and grounds maintenance preferred, or any combination of experience, education and training which would provide the level of knowledge, skills and abilities required.
- Grounds maintenance practices, including knowledge of the proper operations and safety practices related to landscaping power and hand tools.
- Possession of a valid Oregon driver’s license.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required, unless still enrolled in high school.
